Tucked away on the south coast of Gran Canaria, the BlueBay Beach Club can be found in San Agustin. With a sheltered cove popular with locals, you’ll find authentic restaurants on the promenade which runs to neighbouring Maspalomas. Why not boost your holiday pocket money by trying your luck at one of San Agustin’s two casinos!
Just a short bus or taxi ride from the BlueBay Beach Club, Maspalomas offers a great deal for visitors to see and do.
Boasting 17 km of stunning coastline, the area is a heaven on earth for beach lovers. The rolling dunes are home to rare flora and fauna, lizards and rabbits. The water is shallow and calm, making it a great choice for families, and there are plenty of cafes and bars to enjoy along the strip, whatever the time of day or night.
It’s hard to miss El Faro de Maspalomas, the lighthouse which dominates the sky line of the area. At 68-metres tall the lighthouse alerts seafarers to the coast and also guides visitors to the upmarket Boulevard El Faro, filled with bars, restaurants and boutiques.
Adjoining Maspalomas is Playa del Ingles, the biggest resort on the island, and the liveliest too. With a thriving gay scene, you’ll find a plethora of bars and clubs open till dawn, and a real party atmosphere.
Or head further afield to the islands’ capital, Las Palmas. Explore the historic Vegueta area where buildings have stood for over half a millennia. Learn more about the islands’ history at the Museo Canario, or take in an impressive collection of modern art at the Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno. Hit the shops in the Triana district, where you’ll find exclusive boutiques and jewellery shops.
Visiting in February or March? Be sure to visit the renowned Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Take in the colourful parade, rivalled only by Rio Carnival, and don’t miss the White Party, when everyone wears white and throws talcum powder at each other!
