One of the closest beach resorts to the capital Santo Domingo, Boca Chica is also one of the liveliest. Originally a fishing village the town has evolved to be a highly popular tourist destination, thanks largely to its beautiful beach and calm waters. If you’d like a break from the crowds on the beach take a wander through the town’s streets and relax in the park at its center.
Things really heat up once the sun goes down. From 7pm the main street Calle Duarte becomes pedestrian only, with restaurants and bars opening up on to the street and music filling the air.
Those looking for something other than a beach and party holiday will want to stray from Boca Chica and head out to the surrounding area. BelleVue Dominican Bay makes for a great base to explore all that the Dominican Republic has to offer, and the hotel’s staff will be happy to help you arrange a trip or guide – just ask at the reception desk.
Head 25km east and you’ll find yourself in Santo Domingo, the largest and most interesting city in the Dominican Republic, with plenty to see and do. Stroll through the Zona Colonial and see its beautiful architecture, or explore the Museo del Hombre and Museo Prehispanico, which both have excellent collections dating from the Taino Civilisation.
